Butxaca are a six-piece band playing an eclectic mix of jazz-influenced music. Their set moves from well-known pieces by artists such as Herbie Hancock and Freddie Hubbard to lesser-known gems uncovered by members of the band and arranged in the distinctive Butxaca style. With three frontline horns and a tight three-piece rhythm section, the band delivers a sound that’s rich, dynamic and driven by groove.
The band’s name, pronounced boo-ja-ka, translated from Spanish language Valenciano, literally means pocket, and Butxaca aim to play music that grooves ‘in the pocket’.
